I'm connecting TR-004 directly to my PC running Windows 10 using USB 3.0 cable. The QNAP External RAID Manager could not detect the enclosure. It always says "No devices found". However, Windows 10 File Explorer finds all 4 drives.  I do want to run External RAID Manager to manage all my drives and update firmware from time to time. Does anyone know what's going on here? Thanks.

i have the TR-004 connected to my windows 10 PC with the Raid mgr. but didnt  have that problem... seems like the prob is with the manager maybe you could try deleting the mgr and re-downloading....  the serial number should show up in the "select device" box of the manager

Can this be connected directly to a PC  via a USB C cable as a RAID 1 external storage device?

I have a dead 4 bay raid, can I set this for raid 5 and install my discs without data loss?

If you were already in the qnap tr-004, then yes you can swap from an old unit to a new unit.  If it was not qnap...the odds go down.  Couldn't say for certain though

Does this work with the Raspberry Pi OS Lite version of Linux?

This can be set up one of two ways for ease of use (I've tried both).
One is on the router's USB port (if the router can do storage), and then you can permission out the different directories as network shares.
One is on a desktop's USB port, and share one/more directories so other hosts can access them as network shares.

I've  not used it directly on Raspberry PI, but it is accessible as network shares using CentOS or Ubuntu OS.

At the moment the largest drive compatible with it is 14TB.  So, theoretically if you went with the largest drives possible and used no drive redundancy to protect against a drive failure you could get up to 56 TBs.  I think a more common scenario would be maybe 6TB or 8TB drives in a RAID 5 giving 18TB or 24TB respectively.

this unit tr-004 does not have RJ-45 LAN port. how do i connect to my router?

IT is Direct Attached storage not a NAS, it either connects as an expansion to your existing NAS or Directly to a PC as external storage.

Can this be plugged into another QNAP NAS directly (e.g., TVS-627XT which has plenty of USB 3.2 slots) and be used as a backup device for it taking advantage of the 5Gbps?  Would I control the storage as a separate device or as attached storage to the main NAS and configure some sort of backup or sync?
