- Avery Products Corporation is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of self-adhesive labels, labeling software, binders, dividers and other products, and markets under the well-known Avery® brand. The Avery story began in 1935 with just a few spare parts, one very bright idea and a $100 loan. Ray Stanton “Stan” Avery invented a smarter way for stores to price their products, and then went on to pioneer the labeling industry. With a few simple materials, Stan created and patented the first self-adhesive, die-cut labeling machine and founded Kum Kleen Products. His practical genius would ultimately yield eighteen patents and establish Avery Adhesives as the company that transformed how brands and businesses deliver information. The name changed to Avery Adhesive Label Corporation when the company incorporated in 1946. Later, the company was renamed to Avery Adhesive Products, Inc., then to Avery Products Corporation before changing again to Avery International Corporation in 1976. The next major transition occurred in 1990 when Avery International merged with Dennison Manufacturing to become Avery Dennison. In 2013, CCL Industries Inc. ("CCL"), a world leader in specialty label and packaging solutions for global corporations, small businesses and consumers, purchased the Office and Consumer Products (OCP) operating unit from Avery Dennison. Today, OCP operates as Avery Products, a publicly reportable operating segment of CCL. With approximately 20,000 dedicated employees, CCL operates over 168 state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in 40 countries countries with corporate offices in Toronto, Canada, and Framingham, Massachusetts.
