Question 1

The info is somewhat confusing, I just want to make sure this fits our needs. We have a second line in our office that we use for faxing, but would like to be able to use for occasional phone use. We have an analog phone system. Can we plug both into this and be able to use it as such? Thank you.

The simple answer yes, you can plug the output of the adapter into your analog phone circuits with the following caveats:

You'll have to disconnect your interior phone wiring from the phone company's.  If possible, you should do this inside your house so that the phone company can't accidentally reconnect you and blow your adapter.  If the only place to do this is at the connector outside your house, then it's a good idea to cut the RJ plug off the cable which plugs into the phone company connection instead of just disconnecting it.

If you have a 2-line/4 wire jack at the adapter location, you'll have to get an adapter which splits a 4 wire jack into 2 2-wire plugs, then use a normal 4 wire cord from the adapter's jack to the wall jack.  If you have separate jacks for each of the lines, then you shouldn't have to do anything special.  There are also splitter adapters which plug into a 2-line jack and provide 2 single 1-line jacks, one for each circuit.

You may exceed the ringer equivalency rating of the adapter if you have multiple, un-powered (old) phone instruments.  Only one of my 7 phones meets that description.  4 are wireless and 2 are fancy wired phones which use AC power to provide their expended functionality and electronic ringing.  In total, they draw less than the old Trimline in the basement laundry room.  More than 3 old-style phones could cause a problem.

Question 2

Can this product be used with my own modem and router in place of the one supplied by Comcast for the phone portion of "Triple Play?

Hi Norm G.:

Yes I would think so. As long as your Modem is compatible with Comcast's internet service, you should be able to use your own Modem. Regarding your Router, if you have used this Router in the past (especially, with your given Modem), it should work as well. I am using my own Modem (which is compatible with my TWC internet service). Additionally, I am using my own Router as well. During the set-up phase, when I was getting my Grandstream HT-702 configured, I eventually got to the point during the set-up phase, where I had to just plug in my HT-702 to my Router, and finish up the final configurations of the HT-702. I bought my HT-702, because I needed an ATA so that I could set up my new phone service. I am using a VOIP phone service (voice over internet protocol), that is not a part of my TWC service package. I currently only have cable TV and internet service with TWC. My phone service is with a seperate company (an internet based VOIP phone service). I hope that this answered your questions.

Question 3

I have Ring Central as a provider.  My current VOIP adapter (Cisco phone adapter with router) has failed.  Is this compatible?

Maybe. The HT702 is is an ATA only.  If you are currently using a Cisco ATA with router built in (Cisco SPA3102, SPA2102 or similar), this can replace the ATA portion but not the router portion.  If you have a separate router to connect to the Internet, this can serve the ATA functions.  That is, it should work if you only need the ATA functions and have a separate router to handle the Internet connection.  This is the better choice anyway.

Note that this will work only if Ring Central allows you to handle setup functions for the ATA.  If Ring Central remotely logs into your ATA and configures the ATA and then password protects the setup section (which often happens), they may not be setup to configure an HT702.  This is a question that Ring Central should be able to answer for you.  If they allow you to do the configuration, then you should have no problem.

I should add that I like the Grandstream HT702 better than the Cisco SPA3102 that was taken out by a nearby lightning strike.  Note that I have my own Asterisk PBX server and use the HT702 to connect analog phones and fax to an otherwise all digital VoIP server.  Ring Central probably uses an Asterisk PBX server (like most VoIP providers) in the same way as the interface to their network.  Accordingly, it should work unless Ring Central prevents it from working.  Good luck and let me know if you need more help.

Question 4

Suppose I have two separate physical locations each with Internet, and two separate HT702 ATA devices, and two different SIP phone numbers.  May I configure ATA#1 at Location#1 with both SIPs (one SIP per each of two ports), and also configure ATA#2 at Location#2 identically (one SIP per each of two ports), and connect each ATA to the internet at their respective locations, and be able to answer and originate phone calls on both SIPs from both locations?  Or is it the case that a SIP may only be assigned on a single ATA?  Whew that was a mouthful...

SIP providers (for example, callcentric) generally provide you with "extensions" to your SIP account at no extra cost.   These consist of your SIP number (which is not the same as your publicly-dialable phone number) plus some digits.   By configuring a different extension SIP number on each ATA device, you can can originate calls from 2 different ATAs, using essentially the same phone number (same caller ID).

For receiving calls, of course you can't receive calls to the same phone number at both ATAs.  For incoming calls, your phone number must be assigned to one particular SIP (with or without extension.)  You do this at your VOIP provider's control panel.

However, in the case of callcentric, another callcentric customer *can* directly dial your SIP number+extension, so you could receive calls that way at each device.  This is free with callcentric.

Question 5

I have Cisco SPA112 and SPA 122 in my LAN, will this ATA work well with my existing setup?

The IP ports used for SIP for each telephone line are configurable so it should work with any other devices.  You may to forward the ports you are using inside your router.

Question 6

Will this model allow my HP 4500 OFFICEJET FAX,COPY AND PRINTER TO WORK OVER A VOIP TELEPHONE LINE BY AT&T?

This device is a voip endpoint for an SIP server that is not hosted by At&t.  At&t provide their own voip device (usually built into the At&t provided gateway) and from my understanding At&t voip lines are hit or miss with fax.  I know that vonage voip devices work with fax transmissions, but once again that would not apply to this device.

Question 7

I'm using my own modem (ARRIS SURFboard SB6190) for Xfinity internet/tv/phone service. Will this VOIP adapter work with the VOIP of Xfinity?

I really can't answer your question as I have Vonage. I can tell you that this hardware was not supported by Vonage. I would recommend checking with Xfinity prior to purchase.
