As the OP of the original question about this item and Ed L response, I would like to ask.."you mention this cable is effective to a computer ide connector. Most new MB's do not have IDE connectors, I think...so does this mean that this cable would not work with a IDE controller card for a floppy?

Your computer has the IDE connector after you put the IDE controller card on the motherboard of your computer. But this is a 40 pin hard drive cable. you need a 34 pin floppy drive cable.

I just made my first build and trying to keep my floppy drive. Would this ribbon cable work with my floppy drive? if not, which one would?

For a floppy drive you need to use a 34 pin floppy drive cable, not a 40/80.  Newegg carries them.  Newer style supports one drive (2 connectors), older style supports 2 drives (3 connectors).  They come in ribbon versions and round versions.
