What is a "key card" and how do you use it?

I just received this offer Fri. 1/29/2021 in the mail. The "key card' appears to be a tri-folded "Let's get started" with the Activation code printed at the bottom of the front page. The skinny H&R box also has no CD. Also, the H&R Block box has "PC/Mac Download with a cloud down arrow" in the top left corner which is not shown on the box I saw at NewEgg online. when I ordered. I made the wrong assumption that a copy of the software was enclosed. This was unclear to me too.
