By all means:  window.  Google a bit for info on how an AC unit works.

Cooling involves expelling heat, and that process will create condensation.  If it's just sitting on a chair -- even one "near" a window -- that heat will be expelled mostly into the room you're trying to cool . . . not to mention that water that will drip on the floor.  In other words the unit will probably not work that well and it'll make a mess.  So again, install it in a window.

Window installation is relatively simple.  The unit is lightweight and the installation instructions are ~fair~ for this unit.  Read them; follow them.  That will be your best bet.  Good luck.

my air conditioner only blows room temperature air....like its a fan...the air itself is not particularly cool....it is brand new out of the box. What is wrong?

Sounds like its defective. I would return it and exchange it. This ac makes my room freezing and if I leave the door open, it will cool down the rest of the apt.

I have plantation shutters
