Will this work for windows 8?

A monitor only displays what it is given.  So as long as everything else is working there is no reason this monitor wouldn't work for windows 8.  The only reason you see certified for x version of windows is because it will look better on that type of displau

just looking into buying a new monitor thats 1080p and thats better then my 18.5 aoc in color. but anyways i seen a review that said it flickers in dark areas is this true or did he may of had a messed up monitor?

I haven't noticed any flickering in dark areas.  I bought two of these, one for my Mom and one for my Dad.  I don't use them every day because they're not for my computer but I haven't noticed any flickering and my parents haven't had any complaints.  In my case, the screens are connected with DVI and are driven by the built-in HD 4000 graphics on Intel i3 3225's.  My brother occasionally plays games (League of Legends, Left 4 Dead 2, Civilization, and Age of Empires II: HD Edition) on one of the monitors and he has never complained about flickering.  I've never used them with a VGA connection so I can't comment about possible flickering in that situation.  Overall, they are decent monitors for the price.

Other unrelated thoughts:

The speakers aren't the greatest but that seems to be the case for most monitors.  My only complaint is that the top two VESA mounting holes wiggle around a little bit.  The mounting holes are still secure enough to use but the wiggle is annoying when you're trying to line up a mount.

Question 3

I have 2 Hanns-G 19" monitors right now and want more real estate and resolution. Would I see much improvement with 2 of these, given it's only 2.5" bigger?

Take a ruler and apply it diagonally (from one corner to another oposing corner) of your screen. Add 2.5 inches to your screen in that direction, and that will give you a pretty good idea of how big the difference in size is. Apply the same thing to opposing top corners of your 2 monitors and you'll get a good idea of how much room you'll be getting.

Personally I would say the jump would be significant - but that's a subjective statement.

Question 4

Two questions. Is the base/stand detachable, and how high does it stand off the ground?

Stand can be removed with 3 screws in the back. It looks like the stand off the table at 3 inches high. (from the table to the bottom of the screen.)

Question 5

Does the audio cable provided work on Xbox360/PS3?

The monitor only has a single, PC style audio port. I believe you would need AV cables (red White Yellow) with a 1/8" male jack to do the job. Sound would be poor at best. apologies for late response,
