How is the brightness on this monitor. I hear that some 27 inch monitors are to bright to sit in front of and make you're eyes hurt.

Is the brightness as low as say a 23 inch monitor?

I sit in front of 4 of these on a daily basis, and have no issues. These monitors have a lot of  settings which you can customize to your liking.

Unit arrived quickly.   Setup was simple after I figured out what direction the base attached.   The 2ms response time is why I bought this unit.   
No Dead pixels, great picture quality.  Games play flawlessly.
I would recommend this unit for size and price.  It is BIG.

Is the dimension (height) measured with or without the base?

Since I'm staring at it, I'll tell ya. It's about 17 3/4 inches with the stand, ~15 1/2 without. Basically, a big, beautiful monitor.

I would like to know if it has speakers with a 3.5 mm input jack,
A D-Sub 15 VGA connection jack with a male-male connecting cable and a secondary monitor supports a VGA connection. I will also need longer cables, are they available?

It does have a 3.5 mm (or 1/8") audio input jack.  It can also receive audio through the HDMI input.  It comes with a short VGA Male to Male cable, and accepts the standard 15 pin VGA input.  Note that some DVI to VGA adapters cannot support 1080P resolution, and the maximum resolution of the VGA output on your computer is dependent on your graphics card, and may be less than the full 1920 by 1080P that this monitor can display.  You can get longer VGA cables from Newegg or a number of other companies (Amazon, Radio Shack, etc.).  I was using this product as a secondary monitor, but the VGA input on mine was defective, so I had to return it (after several hours of use, it appeared to have dead pixels when operated through the VGA input, but not when operated through the HDMI input).  If you don't get a defective one, it should be fine.  I could not see any dead pixels on mine.  You might need to adjust the brightness down and change the color settings, as mine was quite bright out of the box.

The screen is big and beautiful but the answer to your question is no, it is not glossy. I was personally looking for a glossy screen as well but instead found this at a great price and decided to give it a go. I am very impressed and love this monitor.

What is the difference between this model (HL273HPB) and the Hanns-G HL272HPB? I can't seem to find any differences except the price.

Looks like the differences are the brightness, contrast ratio, viewing angles and anti-glare screen.

It does, but don't waste your money. It's an over-priced, under-performing piece of junk that will die in the first year of ownership.
