System requirements for H.264 video payback on 40" TV?

I don't quite understand your question. It appears that you're asking a question about the Codec & TV, but not the adapter.

H.264 describes any video published for HD-DVD, BlueRay, YouTube, etc.  Although the compression algorithm can handle many different resolutions, frame rates, etc. Almost all published sources do nothing more than what is equivalent to a 1080p HDTV (1920px X 1080px X 30fps).

The adapter will work on a USB 2 bus, but do not expect a high resolution display (2750 X 1900) to update as flawlessly as it might through a USB3.0 port.

I don't know; I'm a PC user.

I did have problems trying to use it as a third display device on a Windows7 PC using an AMD chipset with and AMD dual port graphics card.

However, it worked great on a WindowsXP laptop via the USB 2 port.

If it has Mac & Linix drivers, then I would expect for it to work fine as a second graphics port.
