Q: What type of motherboard does the HP Elite 8300 CMT have? XL-ATX, E-ATX, ATX, EEB, and SSI-CEB etc?

Motherboard is HP 3396. I'm very happy with this machine's performance.

Q: Is the RAM expandable from the 8 shown to 12?

This unit is expandable to 32 gb ram maximum, most of these usually have 2 ram modules in them and there are FOUR dimm slots total, so you can yes add 2 more of the 2 GB sticks to get 12gb but it would work better if all four dimm module were the same, like go with four of the 2 gb sticks to get 8gb ram, or go four of the 4gb sticks like I did, and get it up to 16gb as that level is enough to do top gaming with at the least.

Q: What size power supply, and how many other hard drives can be plugged into this unit (from the power supply & from the motherboard)?

IF you are getting the HP Elite 8300 SFF unit, it will fit TWO full size 3.5 HDD in it, and the SFF is a small 240 watt power supply but get the mid size or tower type one those are 320 watt. The tower ones have an extra Sata port so can add up to 3 some hard drives, ALSO on all these 8300 SFF and tower ones, there is this black colored eSata port but it is NOT really an eSata, it is another SATA, in bios you can go in and it lets you choose to enable it and also can set it to 1.5 or 3.0 gfps, so that means it's Sata 3 at 3.0 gfps and can be used for another storage HDD if you want! Most don't know you can do this but you can.

Q: Does it have an 16x pci slot?

It has TWO, one is the black ex-16 and the other is also a long type ex-16 but it is WHITE colored and runs at ex-8, so you can still use lots of expansion cards in this later!

Does this unit have an HDMI port?

NO, all these 8300 units all have the blue VGA port which is what you call ANALOG type, and they have the DISPLAY PORT, they DO make an INEXPENSIVE cheap adapter on New Egg you can buy OR get an HP made one from Ebay even cheaper than Egg here, to adapt from the DP display port to go to HDMI, so you can do that.  I am using the HP made adapter in the DP port to use my DVI big cable on my monitor, the whole thing with using DVI, DP, or HDMI is all about if you add a Blu Ray reader-writer in the 8300 like I did, the modern software that runs on Windows 10 will NOT SUPPORT an ANALOG signal so if you try to watch a Blu Ray while using the VGA the software will NOT run and pop up an error message to show you need a DIGITAL signal, so DP and HDMI are digital, VGA is NOT, so just get a simple HP adapter off Ebay that goes DP back to HDMI, or like mine to DVI, and you're good to go and yes it's still DIGITAL which is what you want just in case you DO get a Blu Ray drive for the 8300.

320 watts so if you want  to update with a new video card you will need to change the power supply but you can get those fairly cheap and it is easy to do for most computer geeks.
Another thing I do is I put the pc next to another one that has the updated PSU with a 850 watts and just run that power connection from the one over to that other computers PSU since they have extra jacks to do this.
I have done this with all 3 of these that I got here just so I don't have to buy new PSU's and do the rest.........since I don't have to.
I do this with PSU's from 650watts to 850watts so they all work and I am doing this with several different cards from GeForce 550Ti OC to 660Ti SC cards and the newer ones have updates that make them do more with less power so you can check that before you decide on a new video card......BUT the main thing is this is a GREAT price for a GREAT pc........and I bought 3 of them and I actually add more Ram since I had some waiting for things like this and I run mine 24/7 doing WORK data processing and these processors run at 3.7 non-stop

So the PC can fit a Standard ATX and (or) Mini ATX Motherboard if you want to keep the case to upgrade?

No, you have to get this thing adapter converter as the wires and sockets are different on the 8300 so NO you can't just chuck in an ATX and fly, will need a converter type adapter which they make this conversion adapter on Ebay to convert and yes then you can use a larger ATX and thus can put in a high end video card, as it has ONE single X16 black GEN THREE type video slot so yes that'll work today's bad boy video cards with a better ATX converter adapater

Does this have a Sata 6.0 Gb/s hard drive?

Here is a better answer, the MOBO itself on the 8300 SFF and tower boxes, the two BLUE Sata plugs those are Sata 6 type and show up as 6.0 gfps, the two WHITE ones are Sata 3 at 3.0 gfps, the mystery black eSata which is an actual Sata plug, through bios you can ENABLE it to be used, then can set it to 3.0 gfps max so it's another spare Sata 3 at 3.0 gfps, a nice bonus port!  NOW< be aware on these REFURB units, there is NO GUARANTEE the refurb places are going to put you in an actual Sata 6 type HDD, when it was NEW we would assume it came with one as the mobo, the two BLUE Sata port, those are Sata 6 at 6.0 gfps, however I have gotten just ONE unit in and found out it was Sata 2-3 type interface at 3.0 gfps and was not a Sata 6, so there is no clear cut guarantee they will put you in a Sata 6, there is no way New Egg can know this either when shipped, on Warranty I doubt they will let you send it in and exchange it, since it's a REFURB.  Keep this in mind!
