I do not need windows 8.

It came installed with a full working version of windows 7 pro (not the actual disks). We needed this so that we could network it with our other computers.

Buying this for older person who enjoys solitaire, Facebook and email. Would this be good for her?

I bought this and set it up for a family with three daughters in high school, middle school and elementary school, and for the mother's use of the MS Office suite.

I found it to be an excellent computer for all their uses, including the ones you specified.  If you were serious that your users are only interested in solitaire, mail and FaceBook, you could get buy with something less expensive, but I would definitely recommend this computer.

Is the RAM upgradable? I'd like 8 Gb rather than 4

I don't know if it is upgradable from Newegg when you order, but I added memory right after I bought it.

FYI, if you are considering adding another hard drive later, there are no mounting bays for extra internal HD's.  There are headers on the motherboard, and with some fabrication and extra wiring I was able to add two HD's, but it was a pain.  Plenty of USB ports, including 2 USB3 high-speed.

Thank you all for the replies. I am trying to see if I can add another internal hard drive, or SSD, as 500 Gb is too small for my files.
I did not see a picture online of this PC  opened so I am asking if someone can tell me if there is an extra bay inside to add more hard drives.

Will it run xp in virtual machine?

The short answer is yes.  Windows 7 Professional comes with something called XP Mode, which is basically a built in license for running Windows XP on the computer itself (in a virtual machine).  The processor this machine uses DOES come with the required virtualization CPU extension required to make XP Mode / virtualization operate.

You will need to read up on XP Mode under Windows 7 Professional.  It's not a the fastest in terms of virtualization, but useful for running legacy applications that don't work with Windows 7 or beyond.  Windows 8 does not offer Windows XP Mode.

will this particular model be graphic friendly and will I be able to use the same graphics programs on this computer that I used on my windows 7 computer? I am not very computer literate when it comes to the hard drive but when I gave up my hp xp pavilion windows 7 I lost all my graphics and now I have windows 8 and I am not very happy.  I find that the graphics programs made for windows 8 are not to my liking.  thank you.

It is not a graphic super computer it is basically, an office computer but you can add a graphics card and it will work fine.
