Question 1

Does is communicate with the internet  wireless or through a plug?  Can I hook up my hard drive from my computer for accessing a program and data on there?

Through a plug (wired) and if you want wireless you will have to add a card compatible with this particular desktop. And do not expect multitasking to go as fast as newer desktops because you'll be using an older Intel Core 2 Duo processor and make sure memory is maxed out with highest GHz the ram can use with brand name memory such as Crucial. I would add a cheap SSD new for 40 bucks and use the mechanical hard drive for data storage and run the operating system proper on the SSD if it was me. Then you will not be as fast as the newest rigs but you won't be a dinosaur either.

Does it have a HDMI port?

The DC7900 PCs available from Newegg are the SFF (Small Form Factor) version of the HP DC7900 family. For monitor connections, it provides a 15-pin D-Sub VGA connector and a DisplayPort connector but not an HDMI port.  You could swap out the graphics card with another low profile card that offers an HDMI output.  Or, just get a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. They are available at very reasonable prices.  Newegg sells the SYBA SI-ADA33015 IO CREST Displayport to HDMI Adapter Cable for under $7.00. They also offer other adapters from Startech, etc.

For a general purpose PC for web surfing, email, word processing, etc., the HP DC7900 is a bargain. You can't buy a copy of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit by itself for what NewEgg is selling these refurbished computers.

Question 3

Does this machine have a wireless card for internet connection?

I did not notice one. Was 
 able to connect after I plugged  the computer  into  the router.

Question 4

1) are there PCI and PCIe slots?
2) can the tower placed vertically?

There are three accessory card slots - one appears to be PCI (32-bit), one is PCIe-x16 and the third slot is the little PCIe-x1

I generally do use the tower vertically.  The only challenge is putting a CD or DVD in the drive but even that can definitely be done.

Hope that helps!  I used to support a lot of these at work and their reliability record was excellent with only one motherboard failure and one power supply failure over a couple of hundred of them used over several years.

The description says "The slim, small HP Desktop PC DC7900" - but the specs say 17.63" x 7.00" x 17.80" That is more mini-tower size. I believe they made these in tower, small and slim models. Can someone verify the case size?

The specs seem a little large - I am measuring approximately 15 x 13 x 4 on the one sitting on the desk in front of me.  For what its worth, it has been a stable and reliable workhorse and the only upgrade I made was to add RAM to get it up to 16 GB and change the video card to support my quad-monitor setup.  It's been a great deal for me.

Question 7

Can someone post the instructions to reload the OS? I lost the xerox that came with the system.

In general, the process is to press the F11 key repeatedly during the boot process.  At some point, the boot routine should escape to the System Recovery screen and you can follow the prompts from there to boot from the recovery partition and re-install the OS.
