Is there room to add more memory if I need to upgrade?  And if so, what's the maximum amount of memory that can be installed on this computer?

Yes. This motherboard has four SIMM slots. My system came with two 4 GB memory modules installed with the remaining two slots left empty. So it should be a simple matter to expand total memory to 16 GB.

It may be possible to expand total memory beyond 16 GB - but curiously when I ran the online Crucial memory scanner, for some reason it couldn't identify this HP system.

The description says 'wifi', and I see that there is an ethernet port, but the images show the additional usb/wifi dongle. Does it in fact connect with the ethernet port or only the wifi?

Both, you can used it with the Ethernet port or use the usb/wifi dongle.

No mention of an ethernet port, I'm curious if having an ethernet is a standard feature as I have purchased systems in the past from different dealers online that claimed it wasn't listed as a feature.. so it wasn't required to have it. Does it have a functioning ethernet port?

Yes it has an ethernet port. Look at the detailed photos, back view of the PC: they clearly show an ethernet port and many other ports.

Nice computer, but not good graphics card, if you buy it you should consider installing a graphics card for games.
