Does this laptop come with a power cord and battery?

Yes... however, be prepared to test and possibly return/exchange. I bought 2 of these laptops. One had a bad battery, one had a bad power adapter. If you go by my experience, you have a 50/50 chance of having to deal with returns/exchanges.

Question 2

Family member needs a solid basic laptop for going online, watching dvds, playing Civilization, some facebook & pogo games and not much else. I know this isn't for hardcore gaming, but will this do for that kind of use? Thanks for any help!

It's a really nice laptop - great speed for the price. Civilization should run, but graphics settings would have to be set fairly low if not to the minimum. Mine came with an i5 processor instead of the listed i3, which is much better. I'm not sure if it's mislabelled on Newegg or if that was a shipping error. Either way, an i3 CPU would be fine for the uses you've described.

Yes it comes with an Intel centurion wireless card capable of b, g and n. Whatever you have for wifi it will connect.

No, I've owned both version's of the HP Elitebook with the ATI Radeon GPU and the Intel GPU. Neither was decent at gaming. Note the Intel GPU elitebook will last longer then the ATI Radeon Elitebook.

Yes, it has a DisplayPort which is different from a vga, dvi, or hdmi. Adapters are readily available on the internet and are relatively inexpensive.
