Does this unit come with and optical drive installed?

Yes. But be careful before making your purchase - I'd refrain from buying another refurbished machine.

Bought this in November 2015 and it broke down in less than a month probably due to hard disk failure. I don't think Newegg performs rigorous testing and quality checks before selling these.

Newegg accepted the return but did not issue a refund and instead gave me a store credit as I did not have the original packaging. So if you do plan on purchasing this laptop, retain the original packaging till the warranty lasts.

It's a great laptop. The only issue I had with it was the very small size and awkward design of the trackpad. So I hooked up a mouse with it.

does it come with free Windows 10 upgrade?

I does not arrive with any certificates or special opportunities to obtain Windows 10.

After you complete the basic Windows Updates, Windows 7 will prompt you with the normal Windows 10 upgrade option via the icon in the sys tray.

I registered mine without any hassle and now sit in the queue awaiting delivery from Microsoft.
