Does it have a built-in CD-rom?

Yes, it has a CD/DVD drive on the right side of the laptop. It should be able to burn CD/DVD's as well, but I have not tested that yet.

Question 2

Does this laptop have wireless capability?  I did not see specs for WLAN.

Hi Nick,

This is an awesome machine and does have built-in wireless. My only real complaint, and would have changed my mind about buying it is it does not have a camera. I took camera's for granted, but the unit I got does not have one and in rechecking the specs I don't see where one is included.

This is a fully equipped laptop which supports WiFi.  About the only thing it does not come with is a built in camera.  I use these in my business environment and they are an extremely good value at this price point.  1 year ago, we were purchasing this same model new for around $800.

No, this model predates Windows 8.x which made folks think touchscreens were reasonable for laptops.

I've already upgraded mine to Windows 10, with no more problems than you'd expect from a new version of Windows.

All hp EliteBook models feature the non-glossy anti-glare screens. The consumer class machines, such as Pavilions, feature the shinny glare reflecting screens. I guess the manufacturers think we're like crows and want shinny things! ;)

How many USB ports do this laptop has?

It has 3 USB ports on the left side, and one combination USB/eSATA port on the right side.  I tried copying a folder containing 19.2GB of files (8153 items in all) from a USB 3.0 external hard drive to the internal hard drive.  Using one of the left ports, it took 12 minutes and 13 seconds to complete.  Using the right side USB port, it took about the same amount of time.  So I believe they are all USB 2.0 ports.

These tend to come from various sources, so it is within a slim realm of possibility that you or another may receive one equipped as such. However, the refurbished one I received did not.

Does this model have wifi and maybe Bluetooth?

Yes, the 8440P I purchased has built-in wifi.  And it also has Bluetooth.  I was able to test this by pairing a Bluetooth keyboard to my 8440p.  You can find out more information by searching the internet for "HP Elitebook 8440p specs".  Then you can find the official HP website support for this model.
