Does the HP 8640 have HDMI ? Does it have and earphone and microphone jack? Does it have an SD card slot? How many USB's does it have>? Does it have a VGA port? A phone jack with modem? Does it have a sound card input to record analog audio into a recording program? Does it have a webcam ?

I bought this as a gift so I no longer have it but I can answer some questions. It has both audio jacks. It has 3 usb 2.0 ports. It has a VGA port and a Display Port. No hdmi. It has an express card slot, no sd slot. No modem. It has a webcam. Importantly, it does support 'stereo mix' which is what you need to record directly from the sound card. I hope this helped.

Does this have a DVD RW? Is the battery removable/ replaceable ?

I believe the technical specs may vary slightly because they are selling a refurbished unit that may have been ordered with different options by the original purchaser.

With that said, the battery is removable and contains a port for a second battery as well. And mine came with a DVD RW optical drive.

Does this laptop really have intel hd 3000? Or, is it an ati card???

It is Intel HD Graphics,  this is an embedded graphics controller, likely managed by the CPU chip.  Haven't done extensive research about this graphics controller, but it is not for gaming, if that's what you're thinking. 
And it is not a discrete card.
