Question 3

Trying to compare the listed dimensions (8.07" x 3.81" x 2.09") to my current MU09 Notebook battery. Where do they get the 3.81" from? Mine seems to measure about 8" x  2" x 1.5". Also, my battery doesn't say XL, just MU09. The pictured MU09 doesn't have the little button with lights that measure the state of the battery. Is this the same battery or something different? My computer, a Pavilion dv7 is on that pdf list as using either MU06 or MU09. I just want to make sure I get the correct one. I want an extended life battery.

I ordered this for my dv7, and it is the correct item.  Contrary to the picture and specs, it is a MU09 (not XL), the dimensions are like you say (8" x 2" x 1.5"), and it has the button/lights.  If you have a dv7, I'm confident this is the correct battery for you.

Is this a genuine HP-produced product or a 3rd-party "compatible"?

I've had problems with non-HP batteries in my DV7 (120W laptop).  They would ALL fail when performing the initial "calibration" sequence.  After being fully charged and in the discharge phase, they ALL (3) failed at 67% and could not be recovered even with special equipment.  These were  batteries that failed!

It should. Be sure the clips are fully engaged when you install it. Mine was a tight fit. Works very well, though, and good life.
