My work won't allow me to use a wireless printer...can I connect it to my laptop?

To answer your question... Yes you can connect the HP Officejet 4630 to your Laptop wirelessly or hard wired either way works fine. You can also print from a tablet or smartphone, it's quite simple when you first turn on the printer (after removing the protective shipping inserts and tabs from the ink cartridges of course) the unit is pretty much plug and play. Follow the instructions and the printer screen prompts and it will walk you through the complete set up process from the print test page.. scanner alignment page.. and internet/wireless setup ( the unit will print them automatically once you hit "OK" to the first prompt) after that it's all up to you. I think you will be impressed with the ease of use, print quality and Photo printing capability (use quality Photo Print Paper for best results) NOTE: The 1st cartridges that are included with the printer are more than likely to run out after around 20 to 40 copies I think they are used test the unit's printing and setup as well as to hold you over until your new cartridges arrive in the mail (providing that you enroll in the "HP Instant Ink Service" if not picking up some new cartridges is a good idea. The print quality is much better with new ink cartridges. Well I tried to cover and give you as much detailed information as possible.. I hope this will help you out. Enjoy.

Question 2

I've never used a "thermal" inkjet before.  Will the ink dry and jam the cartridges if not used frequently like on plain ie. non-thermal inkjet cartridges?

The Newegg price of $30 was for a refurbished unit, which I bought.  In a week I had a cartridge jam which, when I was moving the cartridges to unjam them, the belt drive wheel holder came off and then the wheel itself.  Now 2 weeks later HP still has not resolved this issue.  HP supposedly has a 90 day warranty on refurbished printers.

Question 3

Dr. C said the paper loading is non intuitive.  How does the paper load?

You load it underneath where the paper prints out. I never had a problem with it. I actually really like this printer since you can use instant ink with it. This is the second unit I bought for my business.

Question 4

I'm new to HP ink direct. How much are the ink cartridges for this through the program or for an equivalent hp printer?  Thanks for your help!

I don't use Ink Direct because I don't print that much.  The Ink Direct is a monthly fee (as I have read it) so it is important that each person evaluate his monthly printing volume and how many cartridges he would use and their cost versus the monthly fee.
