Pros: Bought this on sale from a local retailer for $149.99, and I am very satisfied! This thing basically set it self up, probably one of the easiest installs I've ever done.
*Separate cartridges for colors
*Completely wireless printing
*It can print from a phone
*Directly prints/scans from Google Docs
*Clean interface
*Easy to change cartridges
Cons: None
Overall Review: This thing took me less than an hour to take it out of the box and have it up and running for all 3 of the computers in my house. You just follow the on-screen instructions, and it will print out the details for you!
Pros: Easy install, compatible with Win 7 64 bit, clear scans, easy wireless setup, etc. Plays well with over 12 decices on my network...
Cons: The touch screen doesn't correlate with where I touch; and you can't calibrate it...
Overall Review: Other than the touch screen, (and it may just be mine and not all), I am very happy with it. The included software and the ability to print to it from just about any where on the planet are awesome - including my phone. They have come a long way with network capabilities with printers and such!!!
Pros: Ink use is phenomenal and the picture quality is great!!!
Cons: Oh she's stout!! She sports a rather large bottom!! Be prepared to make some space for her, she likes a lot of it.
Overall Review: This is by far the best printer I've ever owned. I have printed countless items now and I'm still on the setup cartridges. Do yourself a favor and just get the color tri pack and the XL black only if it's for home use. you'll save a lot of money and you won't watch it get thrown away because the color XL's dried up from not getting used fast enough. Didn't get this from the Egg but from the place that sells Staples as well, same price btw. get the second tray for it too, it'll hold a ream of paper or you can keep envelopes or photo paper in the top tray and regular paper in the bottom .
Pros: Auto double side printing, no more flipping the paper over to print on the other side.
Can have a second paper storage if you want to.
Getting the right ink cartridge and you could print more than a household laser printer for less. I own a Samsung laser and it cost over $200 for toner and only prints 1,500 pages for black and 1,000 per color. This thing if you get the extra yield cartridge will print 2,300 black and 1,500 color and for less than $100 for all of them.
Has Email printing so you could send attachments and it will print them from anywhere.
The feed tray adjust to the center of the scanner feed wheel. That way documents and pictures don't go crooked when using the auto feed tray.
The all-in-one feature is really nice, now I can get do away with my laser printer and other all-in-one that cost way too much to use.
Cons: Didn't come with any programs to fix scanned photos, like cannon scanners do.
Overall Review: Before you buy ink make sure you check the amount of yield the ink will give you. Just because it is cheaper ink doesn't mean that it will last as long or give you the same quality(if an off brand).
It does take about 30min from start to finish to completely unpack the printer from the box to having it usable on the computer. I haven't checked all the features to see if it has a quiet mode yet, so it would print quietly at night.
I'm glade I bought it when I did, because I got it for $129 while others sold it for $149 or more. Also, I like to buy extended warranties with printers and Newegg is much cheaper, Much Cheaper than Staples, I'm not sure on the service yet since this is my first time buying it from Newegg(though I'm sure is awesome since they have great customer support and products). Newegg always seems to beat out the competition in prices and have larger product selection so why go somewhere else to buy, thanks Newegg.
Pros: It's quick (as long as it picks up the sheet) and easy on the ink.
Photo quality is passable but it has poor halftones and you'll see a lot of pixelation in shading. Don't expect it to make pretty pictures compared to other contemporary models.
Basic text on standard 20lb is pretty good.
Cons: It's a monster, size-wise. That isn't an issue for me but may be for some.
The duplexer is easy to insert with an inproper alignment which will cause everything that goes through it to crumple and jam.
It won't pick up cardstock. I'm using a 65# astroparche and it just won't do it. I've done all the "fixes", cleaned and roughed the pickup wheel, used all the appropriate settings, tried curling the leading edge and it just doesn't work..
It doesn't like photostock either... I've only tried once and it may be possible but since the photo quality is kind of bad I gave up to use my other printer.
Label stock: This is the most important to me as I use it for my shipping labels. It has a hard time even right off the bat (with roughed and cleaned feed wheel) and still generally requires several feed attempts to get it to pull and print regardless of setting. I find that the feed path junks up pretty quickly and I can clean it up with rubbing alcohol which reduces the number of feed attempts som, for a short while, but it rarely feeds on the first attempt regardless.
** Please note that all the other stock attempts were prior to using for labels so should not have been affected by any residual label goo. That being said I've never seen any of my printers get gunked like this so I don't know if it's the immediate U path it takes or what... this printer is pretty much best left to standard 20lb stock and that's it.
Touch screen is redonkulous. It doesn't correlate to the screen and you have to learn where to press and just accept that it is what it is.
TH eprinter driver is... either designed for the mentally deficient or just poorly made. The options are not thought out and I find it much more difficult to use than others. It feels like they've attempted to dumb it down to the point of non-useability. It's more of a trial and error thing than just choosing what you want.
I will likely be switching to another printer for the purpose I need it for. A shame, I want to like it considering the decent ink useage.
Overall Review: Scanner works. Not the sharpest I've seen.
Beware of the wireless wakeup. It doesn't always like to turn back on from a sleep state. I've only had an issue with it like 3-4 times but I usually hit power first just in case.
The ability to download apps etc. may be good for some people but I find it to be... well.. ridiculous. It does ease firmware updates... but I haven't seen any benefit (especially when they were supposed to improve stock handling.)
Printing from a phone - Sometimes it works, somtimes it cuts half the document off. Perhaps it's me but I haven't found settings to rectify. YMMV.
Its a poor choice for photos, labels or cardstock. If that's not an issue then, hey... You could do worse.
