How quiet is this? Can I have it near the customer?

it can run quiet but can also make a bit of fan noise. normally it runs pretty quiet but when its loaded and if its hot the fans will make noise. I try adding a non-HP drive to it and fans went crazy spinning full spin a no one in the office could stand it. The non-HP drive was causing the front drive bay temperature to false be reported high causing the fan to spin wildly. This can also happen if you install anything in the PCI slots and HP temperature sensors can be tripped.

Did you have to buy hard drives? what kind were they? Did you have to buy any additional components like hard drive trays, RAID cards, etc?

yes you have to buy hard drive separately; this has SFF aka Small Form Factor for 2.5" drives using the new HP drive caddies we first saw on the G8 model servers. It has a decent drive RAID controller with memory and battery so ready to accept drives. It has a single power supply but you can add another, it has a little memory but you can buy more.
