what is track 1, 2 or 3 mean?

Mag stripe cards typically have 3 tracks of data encoded on the card. These tracks run the length of the card. You can program the reader to read specific areas; tracks of the card, depending on your need.

will this scanner work with Mac OSX computers?

I just plugged mine into my wife's iMac (Yosemite) and it worked essentially the same as it does with a Windows computer.  The iMac tries to recognize it as a particular keyboard and wants you to press keys to figure it out.  (windows doesn't bother).  I just closed the keyboard setup pop-up and used notes to test.  Swiping a card will spew out the data into what ever field the cusor was sitting on at the time.

What you can do with it from there is dependent on the applicaton you run.  I have no experience there.  I use mine with a card processor on their web site which loads a java app to handle parsing the data from the reader.
