How do you turn it on?  We've tried brand new batteries and it won't go on.

Pressing the Circle ICON on the base of the unit just below the oval with the name in it, will turn the lamp on, addition presses (3) will make it brighter. A final press of the circle will turn the lamp off.

If new batteries don't help, leave the batteries out and plug it in the an active USB port on your computer and then press the circle as mentioned above.  If it lights now the problem is in the battery compartment or batteries.

PS: By active USB port, I mean one that provides power and not an external USB hub that my not provide power to the device connected.  As a tip, being plugged into a USB port will not try to charge the batteries.

If none of the above works the Lamp is probably defective.

how long does the led light last?

I have dad this light for some time using for a keyboard light and it works fine, have had no problem. It does require a usb connection. When I got mine they ran out of stock for some time and when they came back I ordered 3 more for other uses and backup, have not needed to use the backyp.
