Halloween is just around the corner, which means it’s time to start thinking about a costume to bring justice to your inner geek. With some exciting game and movies titles being released this year, we compiled a list of our favorite geeky and gaming costumes we have.
Star Wars
I don’t know if Star Wars costumes were popular the year Episode IV: A New Hope came out, but they have definitely been some of the most fun in the past 20 years. Just like re-watching the movies for the 100th something time, these really never get old. With Episode VII: The Force Awakens coming out in December and the much-anticipated Star Wars Battlefront game coming out next month, Star Wars continues to be one of the best costume routes for geeks. Whether you fall on the side of the Empire or the Rebels, you can never go wrong with a costume from a galaxy far, far away.
Halo
Halo is one of the most fun futuristic FPS over the past decade. Everyone who has gamed at one point or another has probably spent several hours as Master Chief on a distant world. The first time I saw Spartan armor I wished I could have a set of my own, and for Halloween it’s a possibility. It will be one of the most sought-after costumes of the year, since the latest addition to this huge gaming franchise is set to release in a few weeks.
Mortal Kombat
Few games remind me of childhood and early gaming as much as Mortal Kombat. Mortal Kombat has kept our attention through film, videogames and given us some of the best costume ideas ever. This game has evolved and keeps getting better as it remains part of the gaming industry’s foundation. The only thing which would make one of these costumes more awesome would be someone figuring out how to master the Electric Fly attack.
Avengers
Marvel has been blowing up the box office every summer since the first Iron Man movie was released, and the Avengers have taken America by storm. At this point, you would be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t heard of any of the movie’s superheroes. What once was just for the avid comic book reader has become a favorite for millions. Now everyone wants to join the Avenger team. Halloween gives us the chance to live out the fantasy of being a superhero without all the obligations.
Assassin’s Creed
The days of dressing as a simple ninja to sneak around on Halloween are gone. Assassin’s Creed has taken us through numerous time periods, and gave us the thrilling chance to assassinate ancient figureheads. It is time for you to throw on the hood and battle the Knights Templar this Halloween in the modern age.
Minecraft
One of the most popular recent games to inspire the adventurer and architect in all of us is Minecraft. The massive depth of possibilities is truly amazing. This game brought life to a seemingly new genre within gaming. You can spend hours upon hours getting sucked into a world of creation and destruction, and now you can live the 16-bit world on Halloween too.
The Walking Dead Zombies
With the resurgence of a zombie cult following, AMC’s The Walking Dead has awakened the hunger for the grotesque in all of us. It takes a serious commitment to this costume though, from the slow, determined trudge to the visceral grunts and movements. With the popularity of zombies, you may just see hoards of undead walkers roaming the streets this Halloween. The question is, will you hunt or walk among them?
What form will your inner geek take this Halloween?
