If i install this, will it use my sata port bandwith which make me unable to connect more hard drives?

Check your motherboard manual. For my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3), it would use up 4 of the on-board SATA ports if I put it in the 2nd M.2 socket, but doesn't interfere with the SATA ports if put in the 1st M.2 socket and the slot configured for 4xPCIe.  If I configure it as 2xPCIe in the 2nd slot, it would only block 2 of the SATA ports.

How does this compare to the samsung 950 pro?

The Samsung 950 Pro (which I also own) is much faster in both sequential reads and writes but you will not notice too much if booting Windows or launching apps, only when you start writing very large files (>16GB) does the Intel 600p starts to slow down as the SLC cache is used up.  This drive is based on TLC NAND while the Samsung 950 Pro is based on MLC NAND which will not be limited when writing very large files.

Can I still use this as secondary storage (not boot) if my BIOS (Z87) does not have NVME support?  And, will a PCIE 2.0 bus still work, but just slower?

It will work just like AND take the place of one or two of your SATA controller connections. In short, it won't be as fast as PCIex4 but it will take the place of a Solid State Drive (SSD) which essentially is what it will be. It will automatically disable 1/2 of your SATA connections on the down side (I'm assuming you are putting it in an onboard m.2 slot).

Bought this a year ago and my research is a year old but that's pretty much what I found out.  DO a little research for your specific motherboard though... good luck.

Does it include software or anything to migrate the old HD to the new SSD? If not, are there any suggestions on how?

Mine did not come with any software. Clonezilla worked fine for cloning my 120GB sata SSD to the new 512GB Intel 600p. Clonezilla is widely used and is free. However, I did run into a problem where the rest of the drive space on the 600p was 'missing' after the clone. Neither Linux or Windows could see the unused space that was left un-partitioned on the drive. A simple fix was to shrink the cloned partition slightly on the 600p. After the shrink, the un-partitioned space suddenly appeared in the OS and was now available to use.

while i do not have that motherboard, i am able to get it to boot on a MSI sli plus x99, but for some reason can't  run any other sata3  harddrive in any sata plug

Will this work with my ASROCK Z77 Extreme4 motherboard with Windows 7 Pro? Will I need anything else?

I don't think the Z77 Extreme4 has any NVMe / M.2 slots, does it? If there are no 'native' NVMe slots on the mainboard you'd need to plug the drive into a little adapter card that goes into a PCIe slot (I've been adding NVMe drives - including this exact one - this way for quite a while, never had a problem; the cards cost about $20). One caveat - Win7 normally doesn't know about NVMe drives so if you don't see the drive install the appropriate Win7 patch / hotfix). Installing Win7 on an NVMe drive is also a pain (basically you have to cook up a 'custom' install USB / DVD with the NVMe support baked in and that's not for the faint-hearted).

Yes, it will work.  Keep in mind that some of your "PCI Express" lanes may be taken up and some of your SATA connections won't work when you install this M.2 SSD.  Download and read the manual for the motherboard for details.  This is a very fast drive and it costs considerably less than the Samsung 950.

Do you still have to plug a power cable into this, or does it just pull from the PCIe slot?

Hi, I use the ssd 600p for a lenovo thinkpap p70, so it has the the connection already, no need for cables for power. If you want it for a desktop you need one that has the M.2 connection and if it doesn't have it you have to buy something like this "StarTech PEX4M2E1 x4 PCI Express to M.2 PCIe SSD Adapter" 
you have to make sure that is compatible with your motherboard.
