is this what i use to make my internet wifi compatible on my desktop . i just pit it in on the pci express x1  slot and "wahlah i have wifi  on desktop. providing i have the hotspot?

It is an option. There are many different types of WiFi cards for a Desktop computer. This particular one has a antenna on a long length of wire to put on your desk to try for better connection. Some cards have an antenna directly on the back of the card.

Is this wireless adapter compatible with a gigabyte motherboard?

Yes as long as you have the proper pci slot on your gigabyte board it will work no problems. I have a asus and works great very reliable.

If you have pci express it's always compatible. Not to be rude avoid this card the features on it for wireless are lackluster compared to slightly pricers wireless cards and it has no range.

No, it does not have Bluetooth. It is one of the most stable WiFi devices in my house though.

I am wondering if this WNIC can be installed into an HP dc8300 Ultra Slim form factor workstation.  I know that it will installe via the PCIe slot, but will I still be able to utilize the external antenna? If not, how would not using the antenna affect signal strength.

From the docs regarding the hp 8300 ultra slim, it looks like this would install in an internal mini pci-e slot rather than a standard pci express x1 slot.  You *should* be able to take the mini card here out of the pci express adapter and mount it on the board inside the hp chassis.

Regarding the antenna, it looks like the proper solution would to find the hp wireless antenna kit.  Search for hp part number 646811-001.  That seems to be what you would have if you got the wireless adapter bundled with the machine.  If you are going to go that route, you might be better off buying one of the bare Intel cards rather than this kit.

If you are a do it yourself kind of user, you may be able to jury rig something using the included antenna from this kit.  Since the backplates on the card are switchable, the antenna connectors are removable. You could take them off the adapter card and reattach them to the bare card. You'd want to wrap the bare metal connectors in electrical tape or something to make sure nothing shorts out.  You would also need to find somewhere to route the antenna cable out of the chassis.

I am not a wireless guru, but I think you will be dead in the water without an antenna.

One last thing you may want to look into...
HP commonly employs a "whitelist" in their laptops.  There is something in the BIOS that prevents the machine from working with any wireless card that is not officially supported by HP for that specific model.  I don't know if they may do the same on the desktop models. It might be worth searching the web to find someone who has managed to add a wireless adapter on their own.

The cheapest/easiest path may be to find a USB wireless adapter, but I don't know if any exist that have the rock solid reputations of the Intel options.

Can this device allow a desktop PC to transmit to Miracast receivers?

I tried it with a Netgear Push2TV WiDi/Miracast device a few months ago (February?), and was unsuccessful. Even when it would connect, I would get the extended display for only about 5-10 seconds, then it would disconnect and refuse to re-establish, even with the two devices right next to each other. There are MANY requirements that I found for the Intel WiDi technology (based on Miracast) to work, including processor- and graphics-level requirements, but I was sure to meet them all. After toying with it for a week or two and getting nowhere, I returned the Push2TV device. Hopefully you have better luck than I.

To directly answer your question, this wireless adapter DOES support the technology to establish the wireless link required for Miracast (which is separate from the standard WiFi one), but the rest of your hardware must also support it.
