Can I plug this into my sony blue ray player instead of my tv?

This is designed to be an HDMI Input.  IF your Blu-Ray has an HDMI input AND an HDMI output, yes.

Personally I tried plugging mine into an Input on my Marantz Home Theater Amplifier.   The screen size did not scale properly.  I now have it on a second TV in the spare room and use it for lite web surfing and Netflix.

Question 2

Does this have to be plugged into a video device to work after successful configuration, or can it be just powered-up and connected through TeamViewer/VNC etc.?  I am thinking about using this as a remote site monitor, and attaching it to the site's telecom backboard without a video display.

With this release, the HDMI is simply video output.  So yes, you could configure it (OS, network, TeamView/VNC/etc), and then access it through the network just like a regular small form factor PC.  The next generation is supposed to have MHL (power over HDMI), but you should still be able to power it directly.

Question 3

Can you stream Hulu or Netflix in HD? I tried a $199 HP Stream laptop w/ a Celeron processor, 2g memory and it was very choppy.

Yes you can stream in HD but it its pushing it to its limits. So if you have anything set to run in the background it will cause slowdowns. I found this to be more evident when using wifi . so even using resources for that  can be the limit. So I connected it to wired network and now no issues.  
In short it will do the job but just barely and only if your conditions are just right.

Question 4

Can this be upgraded to Windows 10 professional? I would like to have this on the network and be managed by a domain.

In theory, yes. The two I have are Windows 10 Home 32-bit. To upgrade to Windows 10 Pro 32-bit you will need a key code to make it legal and validated.

This stick PC is just a basic 32-bit PC that happens to be in stick form. I would suggest staying with 32-bit, though with a BIOS setting, you can install 64-bit Ubuntu. The hardware is 64-bit, but the BIOS has these two setting: 32-bit Windows and 64-bit Ubuntu.
