how do you hook this up to your ethernet cable??

This device only connects to the internet via wifi.  You could try to get a USB ethernet adaptor (about $15), but I have not tried it on this device.  the wifi adaptor is full speed and runs applications which require a hi speed connection (such as KODI) just fine.  Hope this helps.

Can I hook a external hard drive to it?

I purchased this for someone else, so I'm not certain.  I know flash drives work.  If the drive is powered I don't see an issue.   Portable might draw too much power, but I can't confirm that either way.

It will easily support at least 10 sticks of ram without straining the HDMI connector.

yes it will support conference calls. I use it for my brokerage and it works just fine.

If you mean Micro USB yes it's the same type most phones use. Be aware that it requires 3A input current. Not all battery banks can output that high. Check your battery specs first. As for the MicroSD slot, it will take pretty standard memory cards and they show up as a second drive after the built in 32GB of memory. It would be extra storage since the system (Windows) runs on the internal memory.

Can I install windows 7 on it?

I did, get you OS ready (x64 preferred), run intels driver update utility, Scan with utility (make sure you choose your stick), Check every box you see and download the drivers. Extract the drivers and make sure you have Rufus handy somewhere too. Run rufus with these options checked.. Create a bootable disk image, standard windows install and create extended label and icons with your usb flash drive chosen. GPT (might have to old school it if you have no clue here)  partition too. Copy all the drivers to the stick. Reboot your PC and boot from that stick. With both the usb and intel stick plugged in go to install, Delete every partition from the intel stick. Install your flavor to the intel stick. Move your drivers to where you know you still have them and first run cherry trail. Then the proset bluetooth. Reboot and update the stick. NOW keep in mind that the compression is nasty but it does work. You WILL need a card or external for some room because you will eat up about 20Gb after the install and updates plus drivers.   NOT for the faint of heart. Stay safe and happy computing. I'm running 2 of these with ubuntu. That's a different animal altogether.

   I use the 2 Intel Sticks I have for electronic signage and Powerpoint presentations. I'm not familiar with the h.265 protocol.

How much of the 32gb is take up with system files, i.e. how much free space is there?

I don't own the stick (yet), but Windows 10 Home's specs require at least 16 GB.  Rounding up for updates, I'd say expect at least 20 GB to be used by system files, leaving you with 12 GB to play with.  I intend to add a micro SD card to mine, and I will probably also use an external USB drive.
