Awesome 7/19/2015 9:41:19 AM

Pros: It is a good innovation made by Intel. I felt that this is a very good device when monitoring environments, technology, networking, energy usage at home. This list is non-exhaustive but here are some of my praises

Cons: Abit troublesome setting it up

Overall Review: Overall, i think the board has served me very well. Thank You Intel!

An incredible products 4/22/2015 9:51:13 PM

Pros: What the Edison packs onto a roughly SD card sized chip is truly incredible - 5x the performance of the raspberry pi in several areas including processing power, and built in bluetooth/wifi. I've even managed to get this to run a 24/7 server hosting mumble and steam games such as planet explorers.

Cons: Documentation could be a bit better, they certainly do not have the arduino environment's support and hobbyists who aren't actual engineers or technicians could have a hard time

Buggs 11/10/2014 1:08:10 PM

Pros: Fast clock, lots of memory, Arduino IDE for easy entry to programming micro controllers at the C/C++ level. Has improved A2D resolution. Has Arduino Uno header pattern for Arduino add-on boards.

Cons: There are a few unresolved, more or less fatal to the basic user, flaws in the software. SPI can't be used without deleting a library. Can't load sketches after while without going into Linux and making fixes, all communicated by the user community via the blog on the Intel site.

Overall Review: Stay away for the next month or so unless you are handy with the Linux command line, and willing to spend some time in the Intel blogs to get things fixed. The product in the Arduino Breakout form is brand new, so updates should be forthcoming.

Awesome Board! 10/19/2014 3:07:11 PM

Pros: Wifi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4 and 5 GHz)
Bluetooth BT 4.0 + 2.1 EDR
^ Both built-in! Most dev boards for one of these costs $50-90.
Works with modified Arduino IDE
1GB RAM is MUCH better than IoT counterparts
4GB onboard Flash Memory
WiFI programmable (?)

Cons: High initial expense. (Alternative dev boards are usually $20-30 from china)
19.2 MHz clock for GPIO (slow)
No DMA access for low-latency/high throughput connections.
3.3 volt supply voltage makes this sensitive to high voltage electronics. (Level shifting will likely be required with a IC, Transistor, or Voltage Divison.)
Requires 2x USB 2.0 or higher cables.

Overall Review: 1x 10 bit ADC on Arduino Board. (I kinda want it to pull in more than just one input through the Edison at the same time.)

In retrospect I have not yet got this working the way I want. I'm a little concerned that I'll run into problems with not enough I/O, or task switching problems. But I'll see when I start playing with the code.

Since this has a incredible amount of processing power internally, with enough ram, and flash memory space to store alot of data. Typically on a NXP microcontroller you find about 256kb of flash memory, and maybe 32kb of program memory. I'd like to toy with the web server, a light variant of SQL, and implement rolling log/data files. Should be interesting!

This does come with a Edison board, mounting hardware, the Arduino breakout, and plastic standoffs. So it doesnt scratch up your desk. Cool! I'll update this review if anything major changes.

Edison Kit for Arduino 9/27/2014 7:54:48 AM

Pros: This chip comes in a tight little package, and the board is compact and well-designed. The chip has great capabilities compared to other embedded chips, and the built in Bluetooth and WiFi are a nice touch. Intel seems to have good documentation to help get started. Usable programming languages are diverse and easy to use, with support for more in the works.

Cons: Price - the Edison is quite a bit more expensive than some other embedded chips. You're paying for the compact design, faster clock cycles, increased flash memory, and built in WiFi and Bluetooth.

Overall Review: I've only had this chip less than a day, but I'm excited to see what it can do. I'll update this review when I have more experience with the chip.
