Question 1

Will this PCI card work in a PCIe x16 wired x8 (1/2 length) slot?  The 1/2 length slot may be the issue.

If you're referring to the shorter PCI-e slots, then yes this will work (assuming you have clearance space beyond that slot to account for the length of the card itself...you should though).

I have mine connected in the shorter PCI-e 16x slot in my server and it works flawlessly. Just make sure you put the top screw in as the card doesn't have as much "support" given the shorter length PCI-e slot.

is this ethernet card compatible with Window 8, not a server?

I can't say for sure whether it'll be compatible with Windows 8, but I would assume so, based on that it worked for me under both Linux and Windows 10. That is my 2 cents worth..Good luck.

Does this nic support teaming?

It does support NIC teaming, but it depends on your operating system. Windows Server, yes. Windows 10 Pro, no. Intel "supposedly" created a software that would allow for teaming, but it will not work on Windows 10 Pro.

Hi new to computers, but can I use this along with the ethernet port on my motherboard to get fast internet connections for gaming and things of that nature?

Yes, but likely a single port (Dual port, using only one, OK also) 1000Mbps would be plenty.  Be sure you have the proper PCI-Express slot available on motherboard.  You can disable the Ethernet port on your motherboard via. the BIOS if it is causing problems, it's no longer needed, or it's slow.

According to windows 10 default drivers, it offers "IPV4 Checksum offload", "TCP Checksum offload" and "UDP checksum offload" for both IPV4 and IPV6.
