It should be compatible with most laptops. It was slightly to big for my Acer however.

What type of power cables does the device require?

12 volt standard fan plug. If installed in your computer there will typically be either a fan power plug on the mother board, or you will need to add an adapter cable from your power supply to the fan.

Is it useable with iMac?

It's meant to be installed inside your computer's case, and as far as I know the iMac doesn't have an extra drive bay where you could put it. But, in theory, if you connected up the power and the SATA port to a port on the iMac motherboard, it would read a DVD.

There's no special software, but it doesn't come with a decent cable. (If any, i can't quite remember.) I recommend something like this "StarTech SLSATAF50CMS 1.6 ft. Slimline SATA Female to SATA with SATA Power Cable Adapter"

I bought this and a CM HAF 932 Advanced case, but neither this or the case come with an adapter to lock this into a drive bay, what adapters are people using this to install it into their cases?

Without having the case on hand, it's hard to say, however the drive does come with hardware for mounting. Assuming the case has a 2.5 drive bay space it should be just as easy as screwing it into the frame.
