Overall Review: For all you "Somewhat high understanding" & "High understanding" that complained about intell/newegg not providing drivers with this card and that it wasn't clear in the description if it had drivers - OEM means just that. All your getting is the hardware. If you want all the outdated drivers on a nice CD then pay the extra couple bucks and buy the 'Retail' version. When you rate yourself, it's on the technical understanding of the product, not your intoxication level!! :-)

Pros: Stable, bottlenecks less, smooth and quick data tranfers between router, and wireless. Web browsing, P2P, firewalling, and downloading all go alot smoother. LEss waiting for download initations. The small amt of gaming i do, It knocks off 50-75ms off ping. The intel software suite for Vista x64 has all these enhancements which are just awesome.

Cons: 30 bucks for a NIC is alot, but its a small price to pay for just a better internet/gaming, and P2Ping experience. Upgrading your NIC makes ur experience smoother, but it wont increase download speeds(unless ur mobo gigabit is dying or have a really bad realtek)

Overall Review: Realtek onboard NICs are junk, they are buggy, they eat up processor cycles, and bottleneck. I have bought so many good mobos, but I am always saddened when they come with a Realtek 8111B/8168 gigabit-- they get the job done but thats it. Have had Marvel based adapters, and they are better, but one day i bought an intel mobo for a rock stable build with one of these Intel GT PRO Gigabit adaptors and i was astonished. was the best internet/networking/online gaming set. Now all my computers have em. I was getting pings at 50ms-75ms less on games and my internet/downloads/ P2p more responsive and better.

Pros: Works in Ubuntu Linux 7.10 - no drivers needed. Works in Windows XP - needs a driver disk. Small... Nice...

Cons: None so far. Some funkyness with card trying to boot from network at system start.

Pros: I bought one for my desktop and two for a server all running FreeBSD due to onboard NIC's that could not handle jumbo frames. The driver is quite good due to active support by Intel.

Cons: Between zero and none.

Overall Review: This card can be called forgettable because it always works. That is what computer hardware should be. Just do not forget to buy this card when you build or even buy a new system.

Pros: I had for years used the integrated network adapter on my computers without thinking there might be a better option. When I had one fail I purchased this so I could get back up and running and it did more than that. I noticed that my download speeds are generally more stable (and slightly faster). It installs without issue in Windows 7 x64 and has run like a champ for a year and a half now.

Pros: So far, so good. The OEM drivers were easy to find online, so we saved a couple bucks by getting this bare card instead of the SKU that includes the (likely outdated) driver disks.

Cons: The OEM clamshell package had no label to identify the product, and Newegg did not even include a packing slip to show the item or order number. That could be a real hassle if we had several similar orders arriving at the same time.

Overall Review: Some have mentioned a lack of Intel support for the card or a difficulty in obtaining recent drivers. Maybe things have changed, because I had no problem finding the drivers on the Intel website. Among others, they have new drivers (version 17.3, dated August 2012) for Windows (XP, 2003 Server, Vista, 7, and 8) in 32- & 64-bit versions (including versions for Itanium hardware, where applicable). Also present are installation guide and other support documentation. (Newegg's product review guidelines discourage me from including the URLs here, so I'll just describe how to find the product's support overview page.) In the Browse window on Intel's Support page, select "Network Connectivity", "Desktop Adapters", "PRO/1000 GT" In Windows, cancel the "Found New Hardware" window and use Intel's installer (the driver file is actually an installer). If you have downloaded and are viewing the "Intel Network Connections User Guide", select "Intel Gigabit Desktop" for this product.

Pros: Works perfectly in an old 400mhz PII box functioning as a router. Some small issues with drivers, see below, but can't blame Intel for old drivers in the kernel :P

Overall Review: When using the 2.6.29-gentoo-r6 kernel drivers for this card, it would only recognize a 100mbit link and failed to switch, via ethtool, to a 1000mbit link. Solution: Download the card's drivers from intel.com and compile them as modules. I've provided the options I used, which I found after some extensive Googling, for anyone interested: make CFLAGS_EXTRA=-DE1000_MASTER_SLAVE=1 install rmmod e1000 modprobe e1000 AutoNeg=0x28 The card now recognizes my 1000mbit link via autonegotiation perfectly and I've had no issues with the card since. Will probably order another one or two soon!

Pros: Works! Lots of features for the money. It not only has wake-on-lan that works (which I have verified writing a program to send magic packets), it also has wake-on-link which is great for a home file server - I have verified this works simply by accesses a shared folder - very nice feature. It will allow me to have my file server on standby most of the time and will wake when needed w/o complications. Do NOT skimp and get a cheaper card if you need a 1000Mbps card.

Cons: Doesn't make coffee.

Overall Review: I am going to do a new build with the 45nm cpu's coming out soon, and I'll be looking for a motherboard with this chipset, if such a thing exists - I'm that happy with it. If you have the pci slot to spare and your onboard lan is not up to par, this card is worth it.
