Question 1

Two questions really.

1. A previous question left me confused. Is this product (Turbotax 2013) for filing taxes on 2013 income (Due by April 15, 2014) or is it the obsolete product for filing taxes on 2012 income (due by April 15 2013)?

2. I usually do my taxes with the online version of Turbotax and would like to consider switching to the purchased version. Is it possible to import previous years' filings for continuity purposes? I know the online system does a lot of validity checking based on previous years' filings.

1. This product, TurboTax 2013, is the current product for filing taxes on 2013 income (due by April 2014).
2. I'm not sure how the boxed/downloaded version handles previous years' tax files if you used TurboTax online. It does search for and import tax data from previous years' TurboTax files on one's computer, if available. The help information on Intuit's web site suggests that the TurboTax program can import one's previous years' tax data from a variety of sources, including the PDF version of one's tax return.

Question 2

I've never done taxes before I assume this is the product to use! Also When would the 2014 version come out? I assume I must have that version.

The 2014 product is used for preparing 2013 tax returns (which are due April 2014). The preliminary federal product should be out shortly, if not already, but would need to be updated before final filing. IRS has announced federal filing will not begin until January 31, delayed because of the government shutdown. State return software (note: a separate purchase, though often the first state is free, and separate electronic filing fee if you use that service) is usually ready for filing by mid-February, sometimes sooner depending on the state.

Question 3

Will this version complete a North Carolina State income tax return?

State tax returns are available for an additional fee with this version of TurboTax. There is a version (Deluxe Federal & State, I believe) that includes state tax forms. (For one state only, additional filing fees might apply depending on state regulations.)
