can I use this to transfer data from an MMC to a Micro SD card?

According to the product specs, you should be able to, but I don't use any MMC cards. I use the old school thumb drives, SD cards, and microSD cards. If they made the device to accept an MMC card you would think you would be able to read and write to it through the IOgear adapter.

2 3/16th in long. 5/8th in wide. 1/4 in tall. But note that the slots are on the side, not the end, so you'll need extra width when it's in use. A standard SD card adds about 3/4 in when it's plugged in.

I don't know about the true maximum, but testing it now on my desktop l, I get a max of 5.20mb/sec with an average of around 4.80mb/sec. This was writing to an 8gb SD card. This held true for a variety of file types: pics, video, games and text files all had about the same speed.

At this speed, it takes about 4 min per GB. If you need to transfer upwards of 1Tb at once, or 3GB several times per day, you might want to get a different product, but this does well for a convenience tool.

I would suggest upgrading to this card, simply because of the fact it is fairly cheap and all contacts on the card are new.  No future worries about card compatibility (unless there is a format change) and no worrying about not having the right adapter.  As for your question...only if it is SDXC compatible, which some of the older ones aren't.  So it depends on what you have.
