will this convert my ipad mini to an hdmi cable for play on a tv?

I have used this to connect a Mac Book Pro to a TV via HDMI, but have not used it for iPad. Since the connections are standardized, my best guess is that it would if the iPad has a true Mini DisplayPort on it.
