Question 1

As I read the Q&A, it appears this print server must be hard wired via Ethernet cable to a router to be on the network. It cannot be on the network via a wireless connection to a router. Is that correct?

Yes, it comes with software that will need to be installed, which will then obtain th IP address from the network. Otherwise, its about 3"x3" square, usb connection on one side and ethernet port on the opposite side, with a power plug to top it off. Easy to setup, about 5 minutes and haven't had one issue since day one, about 2 years now. (Heavy daily business usage)

Question 2

Does this unit connect directly to an open port on the Linksys wireless router Ethernet connection on the rear. Do you know if this will work on a HP LaserJet 1200 printer, or have you had any feedback.  I think this will do what I'm looking for.  Any help?

It works with other HP LaserJet printers. Currently working with 2 P2035s.  And contrary to other answers, it does work with windows 7 and 8, you just have to set it up with the IP port, the software won't install it for you. I'd suggest setting up a fixed IP address, the directions tell you how.

Will this work with the HP CP4525 Printer?

Should work with any USB connected printer.  We used it for a Brother printer after the network connection failed.  Worked great right out of the box for us.  We used it for about a year and a half, right up until we replaced the printer.

Can I use more that one of this device on my network? I want to use 2 printers.

It has only one USB port on it that goes to the printer, if you have two printers, my guess is that you would need two servers.  You would have to set up each print server with it's own static IP address, which is easy to do.  You would also have to set up each computer to print from whichever printer you wanted to print up a particular document from, which is also easy to do.

Question 5

I don't have a wireless printer but would like to print from my Ipod and Iphone.  Assuming my printer is compatible, would this allow me to print wirelessly from those devices?

No, in order to use this you have to install the software. Unfortunately, I do not believe there is IOGEAR software support for ipad or Iphone. This thing also only allows one item to connect to it a time. Which in my honest opinion, is way over cumbersome. This thingy is NOT worth the time. It is much more easier to hook your printer up to a computer and then share your printer through your network. This thing does not consistently work either. Would not recommend buying it. I think you would be better off hooking your printer directly to your printer via usb and trying to install an i phone printer driver on it. However, I know very little about apple products.

Question 6

I would like to connect this to the wireless router that came with my internet service. Will this do that? If not can is there another way to use this for printing from a wifi connected computer?

yes, you can.   You can connect it to the router using a cable, and then the printer would be available to anything on the same network.   You just have to be sure that the subnet wireless network is the same as the local network (sometimes wireless routers have the wireless network being a different subnet)

Can this print server link to my home network wireless hub without a cable?

If you want to make this Pseudo wireless then i would look into getting Power-line Adapters that will convert your Home's Internal Electrical wiring into Ethernet, then you can place your printer anywhere and then run the power-line adapters so that it connects to your router. It can get a bit messy with wires but it works great if you don't want to purchase another printer/don't want to run Ethernet Cable.

I have Power-Lined My house and it works wonders especially on older houses where you cannot run the necessary Ethernet cable. Bear in mind it can get expensive but not nearly as expensive as ripping walls and running the cable. It can also get a bit messy with cables but if you can hide it then you're ok. Also you lose outlet access but there are some with a pass thru outlet.

does this work on a MFP like Brother 7420?

very limited... they have a list of certain printers and usually MFPs is not a good candidate the tech support told me it usually works best on just plain laser/ink printers that doesn't have network capabilities but for scan/copy/fax MFP gadgets im not sure but you can check their compatibilitylist... I have a HiTi printer thermal printer and it doesn't support it

Does IOGEAR GPSU21 connect wirelessly to a router?

No, I do not believe it does. It is a basic USB - Ethernet (wired) setup. It allows you to use a printer that does not have any networking capabilities on a network at home or at an office. That way you can share a printer without having to leave a computer on all the time to share it.

All I have to do is connect the print server to my printer via USB. Do I  also have to connect it to the wireless Router via ethernet?

You will need to connect it to you router. There is a Cat 5 port on one side for an ethernet cable. Depending on the printer you have and your network configuration you may need to configure settings on the PC, your router, as well as on this print server.
