Will I require any special software to be able to use this product from home to access my Military account?

When you plug in the CAC reader, it will download the drivers necessary to use this to access sites like AKO; however, you will need to go to the CAC setup website to get extra programs such as your lotus viewer and e-verify to be able to sign your documents. If you are running windows 8 or 8.1 you may have difficulty getting e-sign to work properly on your computer, but if you're running 7, there are no issues with full functionality. Hope this helps.
