can you use this to add a 3rd monitor?

Yes you can.  I use it at work to do just that.  The docking station for my work laptop has a DVI port and a VGS port.  I got a 3rd monitor but couldn't add it to my docking station until someone told me about this adapter.  I plugged it into one of the USB 2.0 ports on my docking station and poof - a 3rd monitor.  By the way, I use the 3rd monitor for reading PDFs - I turn it so that it's sideways from the normal orientation, meaning it's very tall instead of wide ( portrait instead of landscape ).  It's awesome to have that 3rd monitor.  I don't use it every day but I use it about 3 days a week, so this adapter was worth the money.

Question 2

Can this be used in a system that does not have an existing video card? Can this be the only video card?

The driver for this device only loads once windows is booted. My initial thought without actually attempting this scenario is "no". Using this as the only video card wouldn't work unless your computer's BIOS or UEFI specifically supports USB video.

Hi. Can i just use a DVI to HDMI cord for my laptop? because it doesnt have a DVI port. That'd be cool if it did.

so does this not work as another video card for my laptop? Or do i have to plug it into a monitor? I wanted to upgrade my Laptop but it's too thin to put anything into it. BTW here are my stats.

Is this compatible with laptops? or is this just for Desktops..?

Yes it works with laptops.  We use it with Dell docking stations and it works perfectly.  We have 3 monitors on all the docking stations (2 with the station and 1 with the IOGear). Just install their software. If you just want another portable 2nd monitor for travel try the HP U160, It works great too, less hardware to cart around.

I am interested in running THREE external projectors (all with different web pages) from a laptop.  These pages contain scrolling text, but no video, and need to run at 1024 x 768 resolution.  Is this feasible?

I can't say about projectors, but I used this as a third adapter for my laptop for about 18 months. (Using three monitors.)  Other than weird docking/undocking issues which may not be this device's problem, it worked great. (I now have a new laptop which supports three monitors so this device is sitting unused at the moment.)

Question 6

We are in a church situation with one projector already running lyric projection software. We need to add a second monitor or projection for the song leader to see the words. Will this work for that? We have attempted to add a second projector via HDMI but the laptop/windows does not allow us to project to the 3rd monitor/projector.  Any help would be appreciated.

We use them in our office to faciliate 3 monitors on our desks.  It works well.  We did have to download updated drivers, but had no problems with that.  We do not use a projector, so I cannot specifically attest to that, but I can say it works well for a third monitor.
