iStarUSA BPN-DE350SS-SILVER 3x5.25" to 5x3.5" SAS/SATA 6.0 Gb/s Trayless Hot-Swap Cage

The iStarUSA BPN-DE350SS-SILVER is a trayless hot-swap cage that converts three 5.25-inch bays into five 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drive bays, making it suitable for server and workstation builders who need more accessible storage in an existing system.

Recommended For

• Server and home-lab builders with three adjacent 5.25-inch bays who want to add five front-accessible 3.5-inch drives for hot swapping.
• Workstation or server operators managing RAID arrays who want to reach and replace drives from the front of the chassis; RAID operation requires a separate compatible controller.
• Builders repurposing unused optical-drive bays in a tower server or workstation to increase internal 3.5-inch hard-drive capacity without changing the case.
• Storage-system builders using compatible 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives who want a trayless, front-loading cage with individual drive connections.

Real-World Use Scenarios

• When a home-server or NAS build has three unused 5.25-inch bays, install the cage to add five front-accessible 3.5-inch drives; this can increase storage capacity without replacing the case, provided it has the required bay space and compatible drive connections.
• When a compatible server or workstation uses a RAID array and a drive needs replacement, access it from the front instead of opening the case; hot-swapping can reduce the physical effort and downtime, but depends on the system, controller, and software supporting hot-swap.
• When an older tower or rack case has spare 5.25-inch bays but too few internal hard-drive positions, use the cage to add a compact group of drives for server or workstation storage; check the case fit and plan for its data and power cabling.
• When managing a server with several removable drives, use the trayless front bays to insert or remove compatible drives without handling separate drive trays; the front locks and drive indicators help with access and identification.
