Internal and External Dual-Purpose HDD Rack

Consisting of a fixed rack and a removable enclosure, this kit offers a flexible solution for you to protect and access your data. The fixed rack is engineered to fit into an external 3.5" drive bay and interface with a motherboard via SATA cable (included). The removable enclosure houses a 2.5" HDD/SSD, and then slides into the fixed rack thus giving you access to the drive via SATA connectivity. The detachable enclosure, which can be easily ejected with a press of a button, also comes equipped with a USB 3.0 port enabling it to server as an external HDD.

The separate rack/enclosure design is ideal for users who have to physically secure and lock their drives when offline, or for those needing to access their data while on the go. The enclosure is made of aluminum, delivering efficient dissipation, and superb strength and durability to withstand on-the-road use.

The iStarUSA BPX-35U3-SA is a hot-swap rack that lets desktop builders and technicians use a 7 mm or 9.5 mm 2.5-inch SATA HDD or SSD in a standard 3.5-inch drive bay, with SATA connection inside the PC or USB 3.0/2.0 access externally.

    Recommended For

    • Desktop, server, or workstation builders with an unused 3.5-inch bay who want to swap compatible 2.5-inch SATA drives without opening the case.
    • IT technicians and repair users who regularly connect 2.5-inch SATA laptop drives to a computer for file access, backup, or drive replacement, using the included removable enclosure and USB connection.
    • Graphic, video, and other project-based workers who keep different 2.5-inch SATA drives for separate projects and want quick access to one drive at a time.
    • HTPC, DVR, or console owners who want to add or access storage through a USB connection, provided their device supports the drive and connection.

    Real-World Use Scenarios

    • Move a 2.5-inch SATA drive between a desktop workstation and another computer: leave the rack connected to the desktop’s internal SATA, then eject the drive enclosure and connect it to a computer over USB to access the same files.
    • Swap between several 2.5-inch SATA drives on a desktop with an available 3.5-inch bay: use the removable enclosure to access different drives without repeatedly opening the computer case.
    • Connect a spare 2.5-inch SATA HDD or SSD to a computer for file transfer or backup: the USB connection lets the drive be used externally, so files can be accessed without installing the drive inside that computer.
    • Access data on a removed 2.5-inch SATA laptop drive: connect the ejected enclosure to a computer’s USB port, provided the drive is functional and its files are accessible to that computer.
    • Add USB-attached storage to a compatible console, DVR, or home-theater PC: install a 2.5-inch SATA drive in the enclosure and connect it by USB; whether it works depends on the host device’s storage requirements.
