Can this be used as a capture card to record xbone/ps4?

It is not a capture card as far as I know. It is used to add an additional monitor.

I'm considering this product for a PC-to-Projector application, but am wondering if it's bi-directional, in that I'd need to run HDMI from the PC to a USB port on the projector. Is this possible?

I've not tried that, but I believe that will be more a function of the projector's capability. My understanding is that the USB port on a projector does not accept incoming video signal. I believe it's for control of the projector only, but that may vary from projector to projector. To go from an HDMI port on a PC to a projector WITHOUT an HDMI port, it would be better to use a different converter from HDMI to something the projector DOES have, like DVI or VGA or RCA or Composite or S-Video, etc. USB is generally not considered for carrying video, at least as it pertains to projectors.

Also not tested, but I also understand HDMI to be a one-way technology, meaning the HDMI port on the PC is an output only port. For the same reason, I believe the HDMI port on this adapter will be output only, though I can see with it having USB on the other end it would make you wonder.

You could always buy it and try it and if it didn't work, you could return it.
