what kind of plug is on this power strip? I'm hoping that this has a 3-prong perpendicular plug, so it doesn't stick out from the wall that's behind a bookcase. Your response is greatly appreciated.

Yes, 3 prong perpendicular.  And the cord comes away at a 45 degree down angle to the right so you can use the top or bottom socket on the wall.

Is this power strip UL listed or equivalent?

Yes.  These are UL rated.  I work at a school so everything we buy has to be.
