Question 1

Kensington K55409WW vs. a freestanding dual monitor stand: which fits a desk without a clamp?

Accepted Answer

Choose the K55409WW if your desk can accept a C-clamp or grommet mount and you want articulated arms with up to 15.7 in of extension. A freestanding dual stand avoids clamping or drilling, but its weighted base sits on the desktop. Kensington’s SmartFit Ergo Freestanding Dual Stand is specified for two monitors up to 27 in and 22 lb each, while the K55409WW is specified for monitors up to 32 in and 17.6 lb per arm.

Question 2

Kensington K55409WW vs. K55408WW: do I need the dual or single arm?

Accepted Answer

Choose the K55409WW for two monitors; it supports up to 8 kg (17.6 lb) per arm and has up to 15.7 in of extension. Choose the K55408WW if you need to mount only one monitor. The single-arm version has the same stated per-monitor weight limit and extension, so the main decision is whether you need one screen or two.

Question 3

Kensington K55409WW vs. Ergotron LX Dual: which should I choose?

Accepted Answer

Choose the Kensington K55409WW if both monitors weigh no more than 17.6 lb each and you want a dual arm with up to 15.7 in of extension. Consider the Ergotron LX Dual Side-by-Side if you need more reach: its arms extend up to 25 in, and its specified monitor range is 7–20 lb per screen. Check your monitor weights and desk layout against each product’s limits before buying.

Question 4

Can it hold two different-sized monitors, including curved monitors?

Accepted Answer

Different screen sizes may work if each display is within the arm’s 32-inch limit, weighs no more than 17.6 lb, and has a compatible VESA pattern. For curved screens, also check that the monitor’s shape and dimensions allow the displays to sit where you want them.

Question 5

Can I install it on my desk?

Accepted Answer

The arm offers C-clamp and grommet mounting options. Before ordering, check that your desk has a suitable edge or grommet opening and enough clearance for the mount; the provided product information does not specify a maximum desk thickness.

Question 6

Will this dual monitor arm fit my monitors?

Accepted Answer

It supports two monitors up to 32 inches, with each monitor weighing no more than 17.6 lb. Each display also needs a VESA 75 × 75 mm or 100 × 100 mm mounting pattern. Check the monitor’s weight without its stand and confirm its VESA pattern before buying.

Question 7

Can I adjust the screens for portrait mode or different viewing angles?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The arms support screen rotation, tilt, and swivel, so the displays can be repositioned for different viewing angles or portrait orientation. The product sheet lists rotation up to ±180°, tilt ±45°, and swivel ±90°.

Question 8

Should I choose one dual arm or two separate arms for an ultrawide and a second monitor?

Accepted Answer

The Reddit discussion raised this exact setup question. A Kensington SmartFit Dual user later reported using 32-inch and 27-inch monitors, but the post does not establish that a dual arm suits every ultrawide or desk layout. Compare the arm’s verified monitor limits and available desk clearance with your specific setup.

Question 9

Is a dual arm a good choice for a desk close to a wall?

Accepted Answer

Wall clearance can limit how far dual arms extend and how freely the monitors can be positioned. A Reddit user specifically raised this concern; allow room behind the desk or verify the arm’s reach against your setup before choosing it.

Question 10

Can it hold a 32-inch monitor alongside a 27-inch monitor, with one in portrait?

Accepted Answer

A Reddit user reported using a Kensington SmartFit Dual arm with 32-inch and 27-inch monitors, including the 27-inch screen in portrait. That discussion does not confirm the exact K55409WW model or its weight limits, so check each monitor’s weight and the arm’s specifications before buying.
