Pros: One piece, provides correct power cord attachment polarity (B and R on plastic)
Cons: Like the other reviews, the pin #41 was hooked up wrong, no connection to +5v. I took it apart and soldered another pin in place.
Overall Review: Fix wasn't difficult, but it caused some stress as to why my laptop drives didn't work. Things like this should just work.
Pros: Can be made to work by the method referred to in other reviews. Once repaired (which I did, but can't describe because of Newegg's review guidelines) I was easily able to backup a failing hard drive to my desktop's drive, then copy the "image" to the replacement 2.5" drive that I bought from Newegg. It's not as flimsy as others say and can easily be removed and reused if carefully wiggled back and forth. Using a small screwdriver to pry it loose helps here.
Cons: Shouldn't NEED to be diddled with. Should do the job right out of the bag. The design flaw which doesn't provide power to a drive's motor via pin 41 is illogical. I'll try to contact Kinamax to discuss the problem.
Overall Review: After complaining about this issue to Newegg, they did the right thing and refunded my money. They should, however, either find a new company to supply this type of adapter or make Kinamax correct the design problem. My low rating for this item is due to the frustration I experienced and the need to modify the adapter so that it would work.
Pros: The small flat size makes it usable in drive racks that don't have a flexible cable.
Cons: It doesn't work. Pin 42, which provides 5v for the drive motor, didn't provide anything. I had to create a jumper from Pin 41 to 42.
Overall Review: It may work on drives that don't require 5v on that pin, but it didn't work on my 30gb Toshiba.
Pros: Once working, it functions as expected.
Cons: 1st, like most other reviewers, *pay attention* to R & B power connector before plugging this thing into hard drive and flipping the switch. 2nd, for some odd reason, product shipped had the power leads reversed in the molex jacket (male). Simple enough to flip, but no instructions included w/ product, so anybody that didn't know would be left confused as to why the male jacket wasn't plugging into their female connection. And lastly, like reviewer Frazier DST stated 8 pages back, had to use the staple trick to power up the laptop hard drive. Product doesn't supply power to pin 41...major product design flaw.
Overall Review: Just copying Frazier DST's staple trick below to move it to the forefront, otherwise I would've been out of luck and returning the product. FWIW, I didn't have to remove the rubber cover for this to work (initially). For security sake, I later did cut away (with Exacto) part of the rubber cover and apply a small bit of solder to ensure the power connection remained. Last thing I'd want is for a drive to lose this connection (and hence power) halfway thru a format. 'If you are short on time and/or don't have access to a solder gun, I used a staple. Remove the rubber cover. Push a staple into the slot where pin 41 should be. Wrap the other end of the staple around pin 44 (labled "R" on the rubber gaurd). Tada you have power. Be carefull not to let the staple touch anyother pins, you can damage other hardware (ie: power supply, mobo, hard drive, or even the adaptor itself). GOOD LUCK' Thank you Frazier DST...never would've thought of this ;).
Pros: "B" & "R" molded into the plastic so you know which way the power connect fits on. Both sides of the adapter keyed so you can only fit the IDE ribbon and laptop HDD on one way. Hooked up laptop HDD to desktop to save some files after I messed up a Windows installation beyond repair.
Cons: None
Overall Review: Be sure you hook the power cord to the adapter the proper way. The black write attaches to the side with the "B" and the red wire attaches to the side with the "R" Also make sure to connect the power cord itself to the correct side of the molex connector. Black to black and red to red, not black to black and red to yellow.
Pros: What's "the opposite of everything", Alex?
Cons: Doesn't work with the Toshiba sattelite drive i was trying to pull files off of. Tried it as master and wouldnt post, tried it as slave and windows wouldn't start. Ran out of ideas and im gonna be forced to mod it to see if it will function
Overall Review: Kinamax said that they would ship me a replacment one if i paid 9 bucks for shipping. Is it coming in a gold plated box? cuz i only paid 5 buck for it. Yeh lemme go pay u guys twice what i payed for the actual product for probably another faulty one. Newegg shld remove this from the site. Kinamax sucks.
Pros: Newegg has great customer service
Cons: Ordered 1 of these, came through the mail in a large envelop. Device did not work, so I contacted Newegg to get a replacement. They sent out the replacement in a small box. Unfortunately it also did not work.
Overall Review: I was very surprised that both parts I got in did not work.

Pros: Finally use those old hard drives stuck in broken laptops!
Cons: ...and have the adapter break after trying to install it!
Overall Review: Seriously, these adapters are fine but only if you're extremely gentle with them. I bought four, only two remain. Very shoddy workmanship on these things.
