Same ECC issues

Pros: After several failed attempts to get the correct memory and not knowing enough about rank to make an informed decision, at least this is compatible.

Cons: Just like the posters below, I have several H8SGL-F boards from super micro, and most of the crash randomly with uncorrectable ECC errors. We have consulted with tech support from both Kingston and SuperMicro and both agree that this memory is supposed to be compatible and have no idea what could be causing these issues.

Overall Review: Do not purchase this memory for use with SuperMicro H8SGL-F

"DRAM uncorrectable ECC Error"

Pros: Installed, recognized and booted OK

Cons: HA! Same as tobias. SuperMicro H8SGL-F motherboard on which I installed them to crash randomly with "DRAM uncorrectable ECC Error"! MemTest86+ ran overnight through multiple passes w/ ECC on and off and reported no issues with memory.... still.... repeated ECC errors in OS when using and saved to motherboard log.

"DRAM uncorrectable ECC Error" on SuperMicro motherboard

Pros: At least the machine boots

Cons: These caused the SuperMicro H8SGL-F motherboard on which I installed them to crash randomly with "DRAM uncorrectable ECC Error"

Works in SuperMicro AS-2022G-URF

Pros: Works fine in SUPERMICRO AS-2022G-URF 2U Barebone Server.

Cons: Ordered 4 sets of 2 -- half was one manufacturing batch and the other half was a different batch -- had different heat sinks.

Compatibility issues with Socket 1156 server boards

Pros: I'm sure these are solid modules when used with compatible hardware, namely Nehalem-based Xeon 5500 series chipsets and motherboards.

Cons: I am building a Lynnfield-based Xeon 5400 series server, and these modules are incompatible with that processor family.

Evidently the Lynnfield architecture, and consequently all Xeon 5400 series based systems only function with "UDIMMs" - Unregistered, or Unbuffered DIMMs. Consumer Lynnfield "Core i5" chips do not support ECC, while the Xeon 5400 series chips do, but they all have to be unbuffered. Even more arcane, they require an internal "x8" configuration of their internal addressing structure. "x4" and "x16" configurations are not supported. This is akin to the "high-density" compatibility issues that plagued original DDR memory a few years back. "x8 configured modules will work on all systems, while x4 and x16 modules are relegated to certain niche markets where a person can verify that their system is compatible. Is your head spinning yet? Ok. Here it is nice and directly:

Overall Review: If you're building a Xeon 5400 based system, your RAM must be: Plain old consumer DDR3 with an "x8" configuration structure, or it can be ECC Unbuffered "UDIMMs" with an internal x8 configuration.

Because of the difficulties of building high-density chips that are stable in large banks (evidently), it seems that it's virtually impossible to get 4GB DIMMs (8GB dual channel kits) in this configuration, and if you do they're obscenely expensive. It looks like I'm stuck with no good upgrade path on that system if I need 8GB to start with.

I'm ordering Item N82E16820139041 x2 to replace this kit. It appears that they'll work out (and they're "Intel Certified"....) though I can't find the spec of the internal bank configuration. I'll post an update once I've tested it.

Mystery Solved!

Pros: Nicely priced DDR3 with heatsink. Only giving 5 stars because I assume it works great in the right motherboard.

Cons: As Interos pointed out (after I purchased it too), it doesn't work with SuperMicro motherboards that require x8 RAM. If motherboards are going to be that picky, maybe NEWEGG should start listing the Rank in the specifications!!

Overall Review: The trick with reading Kingston memory is the 4R or 8R in the model number. This tells you if it is x4 or x8 memory. Since SM needs x8, you should look into KVR1066D3Q8R7S/4G (N82E16820139024). I just ordered it today and am praying it works.
