Why tie up your FireWire 800 ports with a device that can't take advantage of the speed? Kuotech doesn't think you should have to, that's why they came up with the model 1314 combo card. It has 2 FireWire 800 and 1 FireWire 400 external ports plus a FireWire 800 internal port.
The low profile card will fit in either a 64- or 32-bit PCI slot. If you are using a slimline system and need a low profile bracket they are available. At the back end of the card is a 4-pin power adapter so you can be assured of consistent power.
Four IEEE 1394 PortsThe Koutech 1314 features three 9-pin IEEE 1394 ports (two external and one internal) and one 6-pin external IEEE 1394 port to add IEEE 1394 capability directly to your computer for connections with various digital devices, components and peripherals, such as external hard disk drives, scanners and digital video camcorders.
PCI InterfaceThe Koutech 1314 features a PCI interface compliant with Plug-n-Play. Simply install the card into your PC's free PCI slot without powering down the system!
Pros: Install was easy, after physically installing the card I ran Unibrains driver install with the native 64 bit Windows drivers. Since card fits into a 64 bit PCI or PCI-X slot, it really makes sense to use a 64 bit OS. While it does work in a 32 bit slot, then why buy this card? Apple supports FW 800 as part of their OS, but the drivers x64 windows will automatically install are 64 bit but for FW 400. Using FW 800, I got file transfer speeds of approx 70 mB (megabytes) per second, compared to 31 mB per sec on FW 400 or USB 2.0, on a RAID 10 setup transferring to a RAID 0 external HDD.
Cons: If you are running 64 bit windows, you will need to go to Unibrain's web site to download the native 64 bit drivers, the included CD only has 32 bit drivers.
