Comparing would have to include benchmarks on custom setups.  If you buy this cooler you are buying it for the lights not the cooling aspect even though the cooling is super.  Save yourself $20 if you want the Hyper 212x Windering, otherwise light it up.

Does using the "speed adapter" reduce the LED brightness? (I'm guessing the adapter is N x Si Diodes in series to reduce voltage...I've used diodes before and they worked fine on standard 12VDC fans. Each diode reduces voltage by  about 0.7V [e.g. 5 diodes yields 12V - (5 x 0.7V) = 8.5Vmax to the fan])

The fan and LED are on seperate wires/plugs so you would use the fan with the speed adapter and the led on a normal connector (it comes with a molex adapter if needed also)
