Question 1

i am looking to put my outside lights on this, 5 can lights currently all one switch.  I am assuming that it's pretty easy to switch out the current switch and install this?

I would answer "yes" and no.  I'm sure for someone who has some basic knowledge about electrical wiring this would be no sweat, but I don't and I found the wiring diagrams a bit confusing.  Also I am not sure how this will work if there are two switches on the same Circuit.   I basically followed the wiring pattern from the switch I replaced and that worked.  You can give it a try and call in an electrician if you can't figure it out.  As far as tools its not very demanding.  Just a screwdriver and some wire strippers.  You should purchase wire nuts appropriate to the gauge of wire to join the switch wires to your existing house wires.

Is this compatible with LED lights?

Short answer: yes. I have two of them on different circuits, both with LED bulbs, they work fine.

Long answer: the user and installation manual is available on Leviton's web site (you can search by part number for it), and it has the details of the maximum load for different bulb types, and I think there is even a table to show mixed loads (e.g. CF, LED, incandescent, fan motor, etc.).

Question 3

How do you switch from manual to auto mode?

It works just like a light switch; press the button, light goes on.  Press it again, light goes off.  Timer will operate as normal.

Question 4

Please advise if this unit can operate two separate appliances or if it only has one switch that only operates one item?

I would like to operate a lamp and a fan at different times of the day. Do I need 2 of these timers, or will one timer do the job.

The timer IS a switch.  The unit replaces a wall-switch.  Thus, it only operates a single circuit; everything in that circuit will be turned on when the timer turns on.  To control two items separately, you need two of these; but you also need to have two separate wall switches to replace.
