Will this monitor function vertically?  I would like to remove it from the base and mount it to the wall on a vertical mount.  I am not able to tell in the specs if it will function vertically or not thought.

It appears that there are 4 screw holes for a bracket on the rear of the monitor.  So I would say yes it can be mounted on the wall.  I can send you a picture of the back of the monitor if that will help.  You would have to provide an email address though because there isn't a way to attach a photo to this message.

The pictures only show a VGA cable.  Does this monitor also have HDMI capability and is it shipped with a HDMI cable?

Can use an HDMI cable does not come with one, ran with vga on an R7 270, runs 1080p without a problem on vga. Tryed it with HDMI and did not look or game any different than vga.

Can someone tell me if this monitor swivels and does it have a height adjustment?  Thank you!

it does not swivel nor does it have a height adjustment, there are better monitors to be had for better prices right now though this monitor is very good.

I would like to mount this on a wall, can it be done, are there holes on the back of this for a mount solution?

Yep. I just looked at the back of mine and there are 4 wall mount holes on the back, roughly 3 inches apart (making a perfect square).  It's right above where the HDMI and VGA connectors are.

No, they don't. Generally in monitor speakers aren't that great anyway. Just saying though, for 130, with the sale, this is a great deal.

It's one of the cheapest IPS panels out there (some go for 200-400)

Is this a matte or glossy screen?  One person said matte, another said glossy, I think one is screen, other thought frame was subject.

Finally a good question, haha. The answer is the screen itself is matte, the bezel is glossy. These specific details really need to be stated in the specs page, maybe someday.

Does this monitor have connectivity to speaker system?

It has an HDMI, DC, D-Sub, and an aux port on the back. Nothing else. If your speaker system connects with a D-Sub (which looks almost like the VGI cord) or aux jack, than yes, this monitor does have connectivity to your speakers.

How do you detach the stalk of the stand from the monitor? (I know how to detach the stalk from the base with the screw.)

I honestly do not know for sure.  I am sorry but I have dual monitors and they sit on my desk.  Have you tried getting a user's manual from LG?
