Is this monitor mac compatible?

i use it on my imac 27".  it works well with a few caveats. it doesn't come on from sleep as fast as the internal, so all the windows get moved to the internal monitor and i have to move them back every time.  i had trouble getting full resolution to work and had to use SwitchResX to get 2560x1440 (though this could be my previous external monitor only did 1080p and OS X has some kind of bug). i bought a thunderbolt->DisplayPort cable to see if it was my HDMI cable, but still had this 1080p max resolution until I installed SwitchResX (its not freeware either unfortunately)

Resolution, color, brightness are fanstastic, arguably a better picture than the internal imac display.

Does this monitor have built-in speakers?
how many hdmi inputs this monitor has?

Yes it dose have built in speakers.  Can not say the quality have never used them before.

There is only one HDMI input, however this monitor does not have a problem when switching HDMI inputs via switchboard.

I wholeheartedly recommencement this monitor.  It out performs in quality from what i have experienced with other 27" monitors.  I even prefer it over my Overlord 27"

Question 3

Do the 27EA83R and 27EA83D both offer the Dual Link up feature for two device ?  Also do they both allow the removal of the stand for choosing some other mount ?

I know my 27EA83R-D offers dual link. Yes you can remove the stand I have mine sitting on the ERGOTRON 45-174-300 Neo-Flex LCD Arm with Extension, my stand says its only rated for up to a 22" but I'v mounted two different 27" monitors on that stand and have had zero problem. IMO for the money you cant beat the stand, but the OEM stand isn't all that bad, I reused it for my other 27" monitor. The monitor awesome. I had an Acer and a nice high res Dell before this LG and this is hands down the best monitor I've ever owned.

Has anybody had success overclocking the refresh rate on this monitor? Im looking for 96Hz +

Just gave it a shot. I started at 85 Hz, No good  "Out of Range" it displayed.  Same with 80, 75, and 65Hz.

First time I'd ever tried to do that.   Had to look it up and watch a Linus Tech Tip on Youtube  to learn how.

The rig I tried it out on:
4770k on a Maximus VI Gene
16 Gigs of Mushkin Redline
SAMSUNG 840 SSD
GTX 780
27EA83R-D @ 2560 x 1440 connected via Display port.

Question 5

I currently have a Dell XPS 8500 i7 with 32gb memory installed. The graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 7570 with an HDMI connection and DVI. Is it likely this card will function with this monitor? I recognize there will be some limitations depending on the HDMI version; I cannot find anything that tell me what those limitations are likely to be. Any guidance you can offer is welcomed.

This is an awesome monitor. on the dell website you will find your graphs card.

Your card should power it no problem. Are you trying to run it Multi Monitors if so they will work as well.

To get to the highest res 2560 x 1440 you may need StarTech MDP2DVID Mini DisplayPort to DVI Dual-Link Active Adapter - USB Powered offered by newegg.

Does it have headphone output?
Is it 3.5mm?

Yes it dose have one on the back of it so you can plug in a paire of headphones or some desktop speakers to hear audio come from the HDMi input.

Question 7

On the LG website, this product  (27EA83R-D) shows 2 HDMI ports and the USB ports are configured differently. 
It also says 10-bit color, but only lists 16.7 million colors for the depth (8-bit).

Could anyone clear any of these details up?

The photo on LG's site is wrong, as you mention.
The PDF Manual on LG's US commercial site , 27EA83_27EA83R_US_ENG.pdf, has a correct image on page 6.
For video inputs there is one each: dual-link DVI, HDMI, and full-size DP (display port). USB3 has 1 uplink and 3 down. The manual fwiw says 16.7 Million Colors can be displayed.
